The Georgia Voter Empowerment Project (GAVEP) is a newly-formed nonprofit charitable corporation based in Atlanta, Georgia. Our mission is to strengthen the promise of democracy and advance the causes of civil and human rights, equality, and human dignity for all by increasing the visibility, impact, and civic participation levels of progressive-minded Georgians in traditionally disadvantaged, underrepresented, and/or socially stigmatized communities. We accomplish this mission primarily through organizing innovative, nonpartisan voter registration drives in targeted communities throughout the state; providing technical assistance and training to private voter registration organizers; sponsoring candidate and issue awareness forums; and encouraging and mobilizing eligible citizens to vote on election day.

Georgia’s strength is its diversity. However, many segments of Georgia’s citizenry are not full participants in the democratic process because they are not registered to vote or they do not vote. GAVEP’s goal is to enhance the body politic by ensuring that progressive-minded Georgians of diverse backgrounds are informed, encouraged, and empowered to use their most valuable civic weapon: their right to vote.
