Our Vision

The Georgia Voter Empowerment Project will become the central coordinating force and clearinghouse for progressive nonpartisan grassroots voter registration, education, and mobilization efforts throughout Georgia. GAVEP will achieve this vision primarily by collaborating with its institutional and individual members and others to develop a symbiotic infrastructure that provides flexible “best practices” models designed to deliver the most convenient and least restrictive means for registering and educating the greatest number of eligible voters, wherever they may be found. At the same time, GAVEP’s voter registration and education models will stress integrity and accountability — both for private voter registration workers (whether volunteers or paid staffers) and for state and local election officials. GAVEP anticipates that the development of this infrastructure will also facilitate and encourage greater collaboration and mutual awareness among Georgia’s various progressive-minded communities — which will, in turn, inure to the benefit of progressive causes as a whole.

What is a Progressive Anyway?

Being a progressive doesn't require any particular allegiance to a political party or candidate.  Rather, progressivism refers to one’s broader societal view. Progressives believe deeply in peace, respect for others, religious freedom, social responsibility, and lifestyle diversity. Progressives are committed to real democracy: freedom, equality, justice, due process, human rights, and participation in governance. Progressives know that real democracy requires a partnership society that embraces diversity and eschews discrimination and prejudice in all forms, particularly when based on race, ethnicity, age, sex, sexual orientation, religion, physical disability, or economic status.
